Mahda Purmehdi

Mahda Purmehdi (b. 1994) is a filmmaker from Tehran, Iran. He works primarily with 16mm film and tactile manipulations of the moving image, be it analog or digital. His films range from home movies and diary/essay films to deviant approaches to narrative film and genre cinema, especially horror genre. His work poses questions around the ontology of photographic image, film’s corporeality, dreams and memory, and the act of looking itself as well as looking through film and its history. He received his BFA in Film from Tehran University of Art in 2019 and is currently pursuing his MFA in Film at the University of Colorado Boulder.
