Pierre Lavoie
Pierre Lavoie is a Canadian amateur triathlon athlete born on December 17, 1963 in L’Anse-Saint-Jean, Quebec. Lavoie and his wife, Lynne Routhier, are the parents of four children: Bruno-Pierre, Laurie, Raphaël and Joly-Ann. Laurie (1993–1997) and Raphaël (1998–1999) suffered from lactic acidosis and died at a young age. In 1999, Pierre Lavoie launches the first edition of Le Défi Pierre Lavoie in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean to raise awareness towards the lactic acidosis disease and raise funds for medical research. In 2008, the Défi broadened its mission to mobilize students of all ages across Québec and was renamed the Grand Défi Pierre Lavoie.
